Mobilizing STEM Education for a Sustainable Future
Despite decades of research on teaching and
learning, undergraduate STEM education in the United States is not fully
meeting the challenge of producing the next generation of citizens,
including scientists, who are both motivated and prepared to address the urgent problems that we now face on our planet.
Mobilizing STEM Education for a Sustainable Future is identifying new
strategies to transform the organization and practice of STEM education. Our vision is
of a society whose citizens and professionals value the sciences, technology, engineering, and mathematics both as an exciting venture of the human mind and for their essential role in addressing the urgent scientific, social, and economic challenges that face our planet and our inhabitants. Essential to such a society are teachers and learners at all levels who are actively engaged in, motivated by, and able to work effectively on the complex issues that involve these STEM disciplines.
In 2009, we convened two meetings with individuals ("Critical Advisors") with broad-reaching
expertise. Here is a description of our project. ![]()
